Vegamar makes history in the World Competition of Brussels with an unprecedented medal “Grand Gold” in a rosé wine, the 2015 Vegamar Merlot Rosé

  • It is the first Spanish rosé in ten years that achieves this rating.
  • Made entirely from merlot and protected by the DOP Valencia, is also the only Grand Gold which this year celebrates Valencia.
  • Also medals for White Vegamar and Vegamar Selección Garnacha, both of 2015 and for Vegamar Cava Brut Nature.
  • The Vegamar Rosé is one of the innovations of the last harvest of the winery from Calles, a modern pink created by Pablo Ossorio intended for the international market.

premios-bruselasVeni, vidi, vici. I came, saw and conquered, the mythical phrase of Julius Caesar with which summed up his successful campaign in the war of the Gauls could well intone this week the Members of Bodegas Vegamar referring to her new rosé wine, 2015 Vegamar Selección Rosé.

In the awards Brussels World Competition, one of the most important in the world and authentic reference for importers of Spanish wines, the Vegamar Rosé has won a Grand Gold, the highest distinction awarded by the jury and for a decade there was awarded to any Spanish pink wine.

It is also the only wine of Valencia that achieves that position in this issue. In Spain it has been just 18 wines that have been ratified with the highest score and one of them is from our cellar, hence our satisfaction.

It is the first time that this wine comes to the contest, which this year was played in Bulgaria, as it is new to the portfolio of the winery from Calles. With the recent crop of 2015, the technical director of the winery, and winemaker Pablo Ossorio, Maripaz Quilez, opted for the merlot variety grown on Alto Turia.

The Vegamar Selección Rosé is a rosé with contemporary taste, where the soft salmon color stands out against traditional roses. Ossorio decided to design a wine intended primarily for export where a lot of these wines are appreciated, and the truth is that this Great Gold confirms his decision.

Three more medals for young wines and Cava.

But the Great Gold is not the only distinction of the cellar in Brussels and should not overshadow other gold and silver medals. The 2015 White Vegamar, also a wine of the year, won a Gold while 2015 Vegamar Garnacha Selección and the Cava Vegamar Brut Nature were each silvers.

This result for three wines from the last harvest certify the potential of Vegamar young wines, a blend of the privileged position of its elevated vineyards in Calles with the expertise of the teams of viticulture and enology.
